Katlin Wyrick
Pyrographic & Wood Artist
I’ve been interested in art since a very young age, always drawing, painting and making things. Being involved in my art classes starting in grade school all the way through high school. For a senior project a decision was made to start doing pyrography, also known as woodburning. I immediately fell in love with it. It’s a slow process that soothed and relaxed me, demanding that I focus on the slow burns happening before me. In that senior year I decided to pursue art more and the following fall I started attending the University of North Carolina at Greensboro majoring in fine art with a concentration in painting. I was tested and found out so much about myself as a person and as an artist. I continued woodburning in the foundry outside of the studio building because woodburning was not allowed in any buildings on campus. Soon, I decided that I wanted some better quality wood products to burn on than the local art shops had to offer. I quickly became a regular in the wood shop in the art building, learning to make wooden boxes, and even began learning turning skills on the lathe, turning bowls, vases, and other items to burn on. In 2017 I graduated with my Bachelors in FIne Arts.

Now, a full time artist, I concentrate my art on things that I adore in other areas of my life, animals, domestic and wild, and nature. Basing a bunch of my burnings off of photographs from travels, whether it be near or far, from the mountains to the ocean, and everything in between.
